Lush Mask of Magnaminty

As I'm sure most of you are aware, combination blemish prone skin is my weakness. Especially the blemish part. You're also probably aware that my mission in life is to find a skin care routine that means my blemishes are a thing of the past (I'm probably asking too much there!). Or at least make my skin more manageable. The purchase of this Mask of Magnaminty was impulsive and I hadn't really heard of this mask or done my research beforehand. For once, my lucky stars paid off and made me really question why I don't shop in Lush more often.

This description is straight off their site: 'A multi purpose mask with a mixture of gentle yet effective ingredients to clean, calm and clear the skin. Easily smoothed over the skin, this mask is made with peppermint oil to stimulate, marigold oil and chlorophyllin to treat the skin; evening primrose seeds and aduki beans to gently exfoliate as you remove it. You can use this mask anywhere'

Like I said it was an impulse buy and the smell of peppermint really swayed me. If you hate the smell of peppermint, this mask isn't for you because that scent is as strong as they come. I have to agree that it does calm my skin. Everything just looks so much less red and angry after using this. Something that I really love about this mask is that it feels like a two in one; it reduces my spots and makes my skin look calmer, and it also is an exfoliator. This is my rescue mask and it doesn't get rid of spots overnight but definitely reduces them. It's the mask I reach most for. I've never personally used this mask anywhere other than my face but I mean I guess it's nice to have the option I can use it anywhere? All in all, it's a great product!

Have you tried any face masks from Lush? What do you think of them?

Soap & Glory Eye Primer

I finally feel like I'm stepping up my game when it comes to taking blog photos and I really hope you feel the same way. Today I thought I'd come at you with a review of an eyeshadow primer. Remember my last one on the Essence one (link here) I liked it but it was just TOO orange; oompa lumpa orange to be exact. I showed you this Soap & Glory It's About Prime in the last haul post I did, and after using it for a couple of weeks I can safely say it works!

Unlike the Essence offering, this is white and applies a lot better and quicker. Don't get me wrong, the doe applicator isn't something I particularly like as it just offers too much product and if I'm not careful it can be a little more than I want. Nevertheless it's pretty much undetectable when blended out. It's pretty easy to blend out and isn't a faff like the Essence primer. It feels kinda silcone-y? I don't know if it's in the ingredients but it gives that soft feeling that silicone products usually do.

No eye primer is ever going to be perfect and I'm going to be realistic, and say that they won't make your eye shadow look exactly how you applied it 12 hours later! This definitely doesn't do that. After about 6 hours there's definitely creasing, but it's minimal. For the price you can't expect the earth. I think it does a decent offering at elongating the wear time of my eye shadow. If you're after a cheap eye primer, give this a go! I have found out that ml for ml, it's cheaper to get the Urban Decay Primer Potion! I'm definitely going to give it a go and maybe write a comparison post. Let me know if that's something you'd like to read.

What's your favourite eye primer?

Five Favourites from Rimmel

I love reading about what people's favourite products are from a brand and so I thought why not start a new series on this blog of mine. 'Five Favourites from' will list what products I love from a brand and hopefully will have something in there that correlates to a different area of makeup rather than just being five eye palettes or five foundations for example. A brand I've been loving lately is Rimmel. I remember being 13 and dabbling in makeup for the first time and just hating the Rimmel stands! 18 year old me however, seems to be drawn into their stand whenever I visit my local Boots or Superdrug.

Something which I think Rimmel are stepping up their game in the foundation area, and my favourite of the moment from them is their Lasting Finish. I've already done a whole blog post dedicated to this foundation as it is the one I grab daily. It doesn't cling to dry patches, feels weightless on the skin and is actually pale enough for me! Oh and it still looks pretty good after a full day at college!

I remember when the Wake Me Up concealer was a staple in everyone's makeup bag, and now I hardly seem to hear about it. I personally use this under my eyes and on any areas of my face that I feel need 'lightening'. It doesn't crease under my eyes and makes me look instantly more awake! I can see how people would use this for blemishes as it is quite full coverage, but I think it just makes them more noticeable. All in all, it's my favourite concealer for under the eyes.

If you're a long time reader you'll know I have oily skin. The Match Perfection loose powder, really keeps oil at bay and I find I don't need to powder at all if I'm touching my face throughout the day. It really is amazing for keeping my face looking matte! I think I might be a loose powder convert!

I think I may have found a blush that makes me look alive but not like a doll. Their single pan blushers are so pigmented and super cheap. I've already done a whole post dedicated to this so I won't ramble too much. It's in Santa Rose and is just simply stunning when applied.

How could I talk about Rimmel without at least mentioning their lipsticks. I have the Rimmel Kate Matte Lipstick in 101. It may be matte, but I don't find it drying in the slightest. It definitely needs maintenance throughout the day, but it's a rare lipstick if it doesn't. I think these are iconic and I can see why so many people swear by them.

What are your favourite products from Rimmel?

The Weirdest Exfoliator Ever

The thing is I'm not joking. It actually is the weirdest exfoliator ever! I'm sure you've already heard of the Ginvera Green Tea Exfoliating Marvel Gel (what a mouthful). It's basically a green gel that you rub onto your face and you see little balls of dead skin left on your face. It's disgusting and weird and yet I just can't get enough of it.

My skin is so so soft after using this (I use two so's just so you get how soft my skin is). The strangest thing is there's no dry skin patches left on my face, it shouldn't work, but it does. Also it doesn't feel scratchy like most exfoliators do, but rather really gentle, just like a cleanser. Now the disgusting thing that I will confess right here is that my blackheads are so much better when I use this, and my foundation just applies so much better for all these facts. To add the cherry on top, it doesn't break me out. I think if you're after a gimmicky cleanser than works, this is one to pick up! Your skin will feel baby soft in no time!

Lip Care Favourites

As far as I'm concerned, lip care isn't just a seasonal thing, it's something that needs to be kept up day in day out. Rather like skincare in that respect. Now my lips are prone to being chapped for a good three quarters of the year so lip care isn't really an area I can neglect. Thanks to this, I've managed to have some favourites for restoring your lips back to hydration!

I know I've sung the praises of this lip balm before on here, but it's certainly my all time favourite lip balm and I don't actually think anything can beat it! I'm talking about the Nuxe balm in case you don't know. It's honey based and utterly hydrating. I usually apply this at night and in the morning my limps feel plump and healthy not chapped and dry. It stands the test of time!

I purchased the BBB blogger box 2 awhile ago and the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour lip balm is also a favourite, but more of one I feel I should use for special occasions as the price tag is quite hefty for me. It soothes my chapped lips and seems to offer them nourishment instantly. It doesn't feel like it's sitting on my lips either, which is something I always look for in a good balm. Plus it has an SPF of 15 if I remember rightly.

A lipbalm I always go back to is this offering from Nivea. Just like the simple packaging it just simply works. It's fuss free looking and fuss free in usage. Plus it's cheap! Always a winner!

Lush lip scrubs are holy grail lip scrubs. I couldn't be without one and their Santa Christmas edition tastes of cola! It buffs off any dead skin (ew!) and leaves them ready for a decent lip balm. I use this everyday and the fact it tastes so good means I just can't resist licking it off my lips. I mean c'mon it's cola flavour!

Have you tried any of these products? What do you think?

My Little Box - April Edition

I'm always excited to receive post, and so when this month's My Little Box came yesterday I was glee stricken and rushed right to my room to photograph it! Beauty blogger problems right there. Anyway seeing as I just received this yesterday, I'm pretty impressed that I've gotten it up this fast. This month's theme is dreams. I'm not sure how the products I got reflect that, but who am I to argue?

First thing I saw was the stamp set, I'm not going to lie when I say this takes me back to about the age of 7 where I used to stamp everything I could get my hands on. It gives me strong feelings of nostalgia so even though to most this product is gimmicky, the little kid inside me loves it! The next thing I noticed was the cloud that told me to cut it open, I found an adorable necklace inside that has a rope like chain. I'm a little miffed with the chain, so I'm probably going to change that, but I think the actual charm itself is so pretty. It's engraved with 'Bonne Etoile' which means lucky star. My French Canadian boyfriend will be cringing when I try to pronounce that! I'm behind the idea of anything that brings me luck. If you know me, then you know I have no luck whatsoever and the last year has pretty much been the roughest yet! Nevertheless onwards and upwards right?

Now the beauty products are pretty much what keeps me subscribing to this box, and in all honesty this month I was a little disappointed with what I got. Foam cleansers are my idea of hell in a bottle, they dry my oily combination skin to no end. The only one that hasn't in all my 18 years of life is the Face B4 cleanser. Naturally I'm rather hesitant to try the Nominoe foaming cleanser, but I'm going to give it a try. It may surprise me and I may love it, you just never know! The tinted lipgloss in a jar by Loved by Lou Lesage has such minimalist packaging, I think I like it. It's a deep red in pan, but on my lips it translates to a much more natural lip colour. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. I think the best beauty product is the My Little Beauty hair mask. That is a product I can truly get behind. I haven't used it yet but it smells really nice, and we all know the first step to loving a product is the scent.

Overall I feel slightly disappointed with this box, so much so that I've decided to end my subscription. I think My Little Box started out so great, with so many fantastic products, but then it just slowly started slipping with what was included inside. I'll probably be tempted to buy again in the future but for now, if I'm disappointed with a product then it's time to get rid. Sorry My Little Box, I think this is the end of our love affair!

Face B4 Cleanser and Serum

Sometimes skincare products come into your life and they can be described as life saviours, or skin saviours in this instance. When I got asked to trial Face B4 cleanser* and serum* I jumped at the chance. After reading a few reviews that sung the praises of this skincare, I would've been a fool not to try it.

I managed to get about 6 weeks worth of product using both the cleanser and serum morning and night, which I have to say I'm impressed with. Now sadly this wasn't the only part of my skincare I changed, my moisturiser ran out so I started a new one. I had a major skin reaction to it and my skin was just sore and red and had horrid painful spots on my chin (TMI I know!). I thought that maybe it was the Face B4 causing a reaction so to see if it was, I just used products that I had previously used to see if I could pinpoint exactly what was causing my skin to be a mess. After using just these products on my skin accompanied by my usual moisturiser, I found my skin cleared up within a week and I wasn't developing any more spots. Now that is something that I think deserves a round of applause. After running out of these products, I've actually repurchased them myself because they are that good for my skin. They also smooth the texture of my skin and make it feel silky soft.

Both these products were super easy to slip into my routine and now I found I can't be without them. The cleanser and toner has a familiar scent to me that I just cannot put my finger on, but if you leave this on for about a minute or two (I brush my teeth before I wash it off) you can feel your skin is noticeably softer after rinsing the cleanser off. Oh, and being of the foam variety, it didn't dry out my skin in the slightest! It deserves an award for that incredible feat! The serum is amazing for calming your skin. When I had that horrendous breakout, I found that within about a day my skin was less red and just looked calmer.

Face B4 is now a skincare brand that will always be in my routine! Can you tell I love it? Have you tried it?

Urban Decay Naked Basics 2

I can't believe that I haven't gotten around to writing a review on the eye shadow palette that I pretty much use on an everyday basis. Of course these pictures were taken before I even used it, I mean it's what every beauty blogger does right?  It most certainly looks a bit more battered and less perfect now, which does make me feel slightly sad, you know what I mean? I just wish products looked perfect even after you used it.

Now I bought the Naked 2 Basics palette off of Cohorted for something like £15.50 which is incredible value, especially for an Urban Decay palette! I've never tried any of their palettes before so I didn't really have any expectations. All I can say is they're seriously pigmented to the point when just a light sweep from pan to eyelid can sometimes leave me looking like a panda if I'm not seriously light handed. They're also buttery and smooth. They don't feel scratchy like some eye shadow palettes can do. My favourite shades have to be stark, frisk and primal. Trying this makes me want all of the Naked palettes. I think it may have kickstarted a love for Urban Decay products!

My Little Box March Edition

I know that this box is fairly late seeing as it's April, but I only just resubscribed to it and when it came in the post it was just too pretty not to feature on my blog.
The magazine that always comes with MLB is just so cute and the photos in there make for the perfect blog photos! (I know, I think I now have a blogger orientated mind). I love flicking through it on a lazy Sunday. I also received some stickers that are super hero theme. They all look so pretty and maybe it's just me, but does anyone else not like to stick stickers down unless they are 100% sure that the location is perfect? Like a commitment phobe for stickers? I am that person so they'll probably stay on their sticker sheet for a long time.
The luxury product is the t-shirt which reads 'I believe I can fly'. It's supersoft and just so comfy. Now I'm never sure on t shirts like this, but that doesn't mean I can't wear it for a lazy day or to bed. It's just too comfy not to wear. The only problem is this comes in one size, so for the curvier ladies out there, it may not fit. I'd say it's a size 12, but I could be wrong. I was also pleasantly surprised to see a Kerastase conditioner in there. I love their shampoos and so this conditioner had a fair bit of expectation on it. It didn't disappoint and I think it makes my unruly mane that bit more manageable with use. The Caudalie hand cream is also nice to see in here, being as I have a part time job that dries my hands out like no tomorrow this is perfect for me.  It is kind of greasy but nothing that means you can't go about those tasks you need to complete. It's just a super heavy, intensive moisturising hand cream. Last is the MLB own brand lip and cheek tint. It's a lovely pink shade that is, in my opinion perfect for summer! It'll probably be used as a cheek stain more just because of my fear of lipstick (I will get there one day!)

A Good Kinda Haul

What better way to start off after a little break from my blog than posting a haul? Personally I love reading what people have bought lately, and I fully admit I'm nosey in that aspect. Now I've never actually been the Trafford Centre before but when Jodie offered, I accepted (I have a friend called Jodie, don't worry I'm not referring to myself). Now admittedly, I did spend more money on clothes but I didn't neglect the beauty area.

Colab is a dry shampoo I've wanted to try since it launched. The idea of a dry shampoo that doesn't leave that white cast is just sheer genius to me. I'm not sure if this will knock Batiste out of my beauty shelves (or heart) but I will report back what I think.

Real Techniques just have amazing brushes and I couldn't resist this contour brush,or the 301 Flat Contour as it's actually called. I've used it a couple of times and it's definitely revolutionised how I contour. It just makes it so much easier and looks so much better and really works that contour into the hollows of my cheekbones. Oh and I can't forget just how beautiful this brush looks, and it's something that definitely works in it's favour. The price tag has split some people but I think it's wholly justified. The brush is softer, denser, heavier and looks and feels luxurious. Put up or shut up and all that springs to mind.

I've never tried anything from Makeup Revolution, call me a bad blogger if you want, but that's all about to come to an end. Jodie sings the praises of this brand. I picked up the Redemption Palette Iconic 1, dupe for the original Naked palette anyone, and the Golden Lights highlighter. I haven't used this yet as I want to get the Naked palette for a comparison post, and the highlighter just looks too pretty. I did swatch in store and these pack some serious pigmentation!

Soap & Glory as a brand intrigues me and I've started to dabble in their makeup more and more. Their eye primer and kick ass concealer where next on my list of things to try and so far they don't disappoint. I think I might do a whole post on how awesome they are!

I love Lush, but I very rarely buy anything from there. I picked up their Grease Lightning spot treatment and their Mask of Magnimity. Both are amazing products and really give my blemish prone skin a massive kick to improve my skin. Expect posts singing their praises soon.

Have you picked up any new products lately?

The Dream Box III

This is my first proper post after my hiatus. I think it's fitting that it's the Latest in Beauty Dream Box III. It's an amazing beauty box for an amazing price and the best thing of all is that you get really good products for the price you pay. Not only this but thanks to beauty blogs in general, I managed to find out about the second dream box and that was a pretty popular post. It makes sense that I'd buy the third one and also feature it on my blog.

First up is these Essence Nail Polishes. They're such pretty shades and I've heard so many things about these that I kinda hope they live up to their hype. I can't wait to try them as I think they'll be amazing! The best thing about these is that they're £1.80, so if they're good then it'll be an affordable nail polish to buy.

I was really excited to see the Benefit They're Real Remover in the box. I'm really wanting to branch into the higher end makeup brands and I suppose a makeup remover is a start. I've only used this a couple of times and it worked pretty good. It did make me look like a panda though. I'm thinking of writing a separate review of this at a later date so watch this space.

The Eye of Horus Teal Eyeliner is so pretty yet so impractical to me. If it was a brown or black I'd love it but having green eyes means a teal eyeliner just makes my eyes look dull, plus I'm too scared of this shade. It's such an amazing formula, super pigmented and long lasting, but I just don't like the shade.

Everyone loves a good lip balm and the Dr Organic Lip Balm is no exception. This is so nourishing on my lips and with the benefit of an added SPF of 15, it makes for an all round great lip balm.

I feel like temporary tattoos will be pretty big this summer and these ones by Orelia look so beautiful. I am contemplating getting a tattoo but they are expensive and forever. I don't know if I'm ready to commit just yet, but these temporary ones mean I have the luxury to not do it.

Something I've neved tried is the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet and I happened to receive Nude-ist, the shade I've always wanted. I've not properly tried this yet but I have swatched it and I love the shade and the feel of this. I may do a full review on it soon.

The Scottish Fine Soaps Luxury Milk Soap is something that smells incredible. I'm not very good at describing scents so I'm not going to try! It's packaged in a cute tin which I love. I'm going to use this for cleaning my makeup brushes with. At the moment I find a bar of soap is the best thing for them!
The Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Melting CleanserVita Liberata Luxury Tan with a tanning mitt and the Deciem Hand Chemistry are all products I'm yet to try. The tanner sounds like it'll be good for the summer and I can't wait to use it. I'm also hoping the hand cream and cleanser will be good. These three products have to be some of the most exciting products for me, it's just a shame that I haven't used any of them yet. Trust all my cleansers needed to be used up, I'm dying to try the Ole Henriksen offering.

I've not really tried anything from Makeup Revolution and I like the look of the Makeup Revolution The One Fluid Blush in Rush Me. A water blush intrigues me and I think I may need to experiment with this to work out how it works best for me. Other than Daniel Sadler, I don't think I've seen anyone else do anything like this. I'll keep you updated if it works because I am pretty skeptical about a liquid blush.

The Crabtree and Evelyn Pear and Magnolia Body Lotion is a lotion that doesn't feel heavy when applied and doesn't take ages to sink in. I personally love the smell of the pear and magnolia, but I think it's a scent that only some people like from reading reviews. One thing I have to say is the scent doesn't last very long, but to me that's fine. I just love how it makes my skin feel silky smooth.
So far I've tried the Nuxe Masque once. It smells really lovely, and isn't the scent really the make or break of most products? As my skin is oily though, I'm not sure this is suitable for my skin. It did break out after using this so I do think that I'll give this to my mum, her skin is probably better suited. Although it does say all skin types so I may have to carry on using it for a while!
Roger and Gallet Fleur de Figuier parfum just smells so fruity and lovely. I'm so tempted to buy the full size and I wish it was a bigger bottle. I just have too many perfumes to use first but then I will probably buy this fragrance!
I'm not ashamed to admit I have never heard of the Salon Science Reglosse Smoothing Serum. I personally find if you have no expectations you can't be disappointed. I've used this once and the only thing that I guess I was a bit weirded out over was the fact it's a clear serum. I really did think it would be a white serum. Other than that, my hair was softer and more manageable and less fizzy. I imagine a tube this size will last a while too. It's a product I think I'll enjoy.

What are your thoughts on the third dream box?

Change

Let's talk about the big fat elephant in the room. I've changed my blog quite a bit, from the overall look to the name. My blog revamp came from pipdig and I can honestly say I'm so much happier with it now, I've coveted their themes for so long. La Lune Song is gone. I've hated that name for a while and I don't know, I just didn't feel connected to it anymore. So I've called my blog my actual name, well first and middle name. Now I didn't want Jodie Louise but something a little bit more personal. Family members have always called me Jodie Lou since before I can remember and so I thought why not call myself that? Although Jodie Lou was taken so it's with an extra 'e'! It just looks cooler too (to me anyway!) JodieLoue it is from this moment forward.

I guess you could say it's been a long time since I wrote a post on here and you'd be right. I wouldn't call it blogger's block because that would be a lie. More like a mental block. Life has thrown some really negative things my way, since before I even started this blog, and then when more bad stuff happened I just didn't have the energy to put my words down on here. You know how it is, you feel like you have no motivation and ultimately I felt lost.

Having an operation back in June 2014 was a big deal, but that got downplayed because other horrid things then decided to occur in the form of losing my nan to cancer in September. Ultimately it knocked me back but I thought I could carry on. I failed two driving tests, but managed to pass on my third and then I found out that I'm not going uni this year because midwifery is just THAT competitive. It put a massive downer on my mental outlook. These aren't all excuses, just reasons for my absence over here on La Lune Song.

My blog is a massive part of me now and when I wasn't blogging I felt even more lost and unsure about myself. Having a small break made me realise just how much I miss the blogosphere and having a gap year means I can focus on my blog that little bit more. It also made me re-evaluate everything and I think once all my exams are over, I'm going to give Youtube a go as a side project of mine. I definitely have found myself becoming more and more in love with styling outfits, so I'm dying to start taking outfit posts once I've gotten confident with looking at myself in HD. The photos above are a good start. Just to be okay with a few pictures of myself took a good few hours!

So this post is one massive ramble, but ultimately I want to say sorry for being a bad blogger and that Youtube looks like it'll be in my future so you'll get to see two sides to me, one in the form of writing and the other in video. I have so many plans and I've just been in a negative perspective that I haven't wanted to implement any of them. Hopefully now that'll all change and you'll see a lot more of me online! Love and kisses to all of you that are still here!
