Where have I been?

In short, I've been busy. A new relationship, ten weeks placement on a heavy medical ward, assignments, and figuring me out takes up some energy. It's no excuse for bailing on my blog, I put in a lot of hard work and to just ditch it as it was just getting going again is a classic Jodie move, but here I am. Back again. Hopefully this time for good.

I'm hoping my pictures can be kick ass all the time, and I'm also hoping that I can muster up the motivation to post on here twice a week at least. Quality over quantity and all that. I want to actually be proud of the content I create and not just throw up a post for the sake of it. Maybe I'll find my groove again, maybe not, but one thing is for certain and that's the fact that I'm not going to put pressure on myself to make this blog the be all and end all of my life. Throwing my life into this thing was a way to run away from all my problems, something I would most definitely win gold for if it was an Olympic sport, but it's not and I still had to deal with all the negativity in my life sooner or later.

The false advertising of lives that so many bloggers perpetuate did my nut in and I needed to just take a step back from it all. I don't have white walls and white wooden floors and I don't need them to run a successful blog. Maybe for a successful Instagram though, but that's a whole different story. I really don't know what to write, I guess I'm a little rusty at the whole blogging thing. I guess I'm back though.

Five Positive Things.

Long time, no type. I'm not really quite sure what to say other than life got the best of me. I've been a bit like a zombie for the past few weeks and this post marks the end of that. Seeing as it's the beginning of another month (wasn't it Christmas like last month?) what better way to start it than with a life round up?

Finding your Blogging Niche.

Finding your blogging niche
From the day dot, the piece of advice everyone loves to include in a post about blogging is finding your 'niche'. It's an idea I always mentally wrestle with. On the one hand I want to be a jack of all trades, but then on the other, I'm being told I need to box myself in order to be successful.

I'm a sucker for a good flatlay, and they're some of my favourite pictures to take for this blog. Knowledge is power and all that malarkey, so I thought I'd share some of my tips.

The Fresh Feeling Cleanser.

burt's bees deep cleansing cream
You know that squeaky clean feeling you get when you brush your teeth with really minty toothpaste? Imagine that in the form of a cleanser. It also means I'm not second guessing if my skin is actually free of all my makeup, because it just feels so darn good.

Four to Try.

Four to try
I don't do favourites post because they feel far too contrived for me. I know I can't commit to sitting down at the end of a month and figuring out what I've loved because what I'm liking isn't confined to one month usually. So here's a 'I'm really loving these products, and I'd wholeheartedly recommend them'.

When they make my hair feel the softest it's ever felt in years, you can excuse for me for wanting to scream about it at the top of my lungs.

Something that I've always lacked is sports clothing, and it's a fact I've let be my excuse for not exercising for far too long. You might remember in January the launch of Pink Soda Sport and all the hype that ensued, well I've got my hands on a few pieces, and spoiler, they're the comfiest clothing items I've ever worn.

My Skin Journey
For as long as this blog has been around, my skin has been pretty poor. You might have seen on Twitter around Christmas time, that I finally bit the metaphorical bullet, and plucked up the courage to go to the doctors and ask for help. If I could sum it up in five words - best thing I ever did.

A year ago today, this blog was born. It was probably a bad idea at the time, I mean exams were looming and well, this thing gave me a good excuse to procrastinate my revision. A year later, and I'm using it to delay writing my first assignment for uni. Some things don't change do they?

Veeda
With tampon tax finally being cut, there seems like no better time than to talk about a topic that really should be talked about. It's probably the most natural process in the world, and yet is shunned to the 'do not discuss' pile. Inspirational books
I used to be an avid reader. I could read a thousand pages in a day. Yep, I was hardcore. Nowadays I count my blessings when I'm able to read because, firstly, I'm glued to my phone, and secondly, who has time to read outside the books you have to read for the essay you need to write. Sometimes I stumble upon books I just can't put down, and these fit that quota to a tee!

The Mother's Day Gift.

It's no secret I'm pretty fond of Dove. I know I always say it, but their stuff smells seriously good and hits all the right spots when it comes to body lovin'. Mother's day is tomorrow and well, my mum constantly nags at me to use my Dove stuff. In the spirit of being a good daughter, she's now stocked up on a few bits and pieces.

As cliche as it sounds my mum and me are much more like friends than mother and daughter (unless I've done something wrong). It's been a rough couple of years for us all and every chance I get to put a smile on her, I can't refuse. Hence why I just had to say yes to this gift set, and maybe because she was pestering me a little.

For the purpose of this post, I did get my mum to open this up and tell me her thoughts. Honesty is always the policy in these parts. So what does the Dove DermaSpa Goodness3 Gift Box include? A body cream, lotion, and hand cream all from the DermaSpa Goodness3 range. Literally my favourite Dove range.

Now the one thing I always love about Dove gift sets is the packaging. It's pretty sturdy and they always have beautiful designs. Perfect for storing nail polish. This box is no exception

Onto the products themselves, they all smell divine (excluding the eye mask, obvs). That typical Dove scent always does it for me, who can say no to a blend of vanilla, coconut and musk? It's even a favourite with my Mum, and when she opened up the body cream to give it a whiff her nose senses (is that a thing?) were delighted. She even proceeded to use every single item in the gift set. It's a winner for sure. She even told me I wasn't to use anything!

The best thing about these sets is that they can be personalised. You can choose to add a message and choose the packaging, or just keep it simple. It definitely helps to add a more heartfelt touch to your gift.

What have you got your mum for mothers day?

*This product was sent for me to review, although all opinions in this post come from my mum and seeing her happiness is always going to make me happy so maybe I am slightly biased on that front.

Nivea Post Shave Balm
The beauty world kind of went a little crazy for this didn't it, after NikkiTutorials used it as a primer? Everyone was singing it's praises, and well, I like to be a little in the know. I mean it's dirt cheap (thanks sexist pricing) so really if it can become my go to primer, then I'm saving myself a small fortune and my makeup will last all day. It's a win-win right?

I'm on month two of my skincare treatment from the doctors and to some extent it is working, but as I'm on the mildest form of treatment right now, I was advised it'd take until around the summer for me to notice any real differences. One thing my skin loves though is tea tree, and I've found it's a pretty good healer and preventative when it comes to those pesky blemishes.

Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita Eyeshadow Palette

Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita Eyeshadow Palette
This is a post that's been in the works for the longest time. You might already know if you keep up with me on twitter and instagram, that James bought me the gorgeous Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita eyeshadow palette AKA 'the stuff of dreams' for Christmas.

Yep, I've had it that long and this is only the first you're hearing about it on here. Don't judge me for not being able to ruin it's prettiness, after all there's nothing quite like a new palette when you're obsessed with eyeshadow. Now I won't bore you too much, I'm sure you've all heard about this at some point already. It's encased in the most gorgeous gold and brown packaging that gives the word 'luxe' new meaning.

The prime shade (top left, we're going clockwise), is the perfect highlight shade. I'm talking a subtle champagne shade with just the right amount of shimmer. For enhancing, we have a gorgeous brown that runs a little on the red side. Nothing too scary though, it's pretty much my favourite shade in this whole little kit. Then for smoking out, there's a lovely brown, one I think that works perfectly in the crease. Okay, maybe I lied earlier when I said the enhance shade was my favourite, because the pop shade is the only that gets me weak at the knees. A gold toned shadow, with glitter running through it is one I just can't get enough of.

If you think you know pigmentation, then think again. This stuff is the definition of buttery, soft, no fallout, and all around general prettiness. Oh and to just add to the amazingness, it pretty much takes hours to crease and lasts all day. Yep, it's darn good stuff. Charlotte Tilbury got it bang on with this stuff. Now I just need more, any recommendations for your 'new to CT' gal?
