It’s been a bit of a Maybelline/Eyeshadow palette overload on my neck of the woods, but I actually enjoy writing one product reviews as I’m sure you can tell. I’m hoping to branch out and do posts which feature more than one product so please let me know your thoughts? I like to know what makes you guys happy.
Anyway I’m a neutral eyeshadow lover, have you ever seen a funky looking eyeshadow over on jodie loue? Did I actually say funky? But the answer is no. I know, I know I need to experiment and I promise one day I will.
I feel like I have to give a slight disclaimer here. I was expecting so much from the Maybelline the Nudes, maybe too much. It’s a neutral palette and it’s by Maybelline, so I kind of felt like it had a lot to give. I hate writing anything slightly negative but at the same time I have to be honest. The colour pay off isn’t the best. They aren’t buttery smooth and even though they look so pretty in the pan, the pigmentation is a bit hit and miss. Some shades pack a punch and others are barely there, mainly the mattes. I realise it’s hard to get a matte shade right so I’m going to cut them some slack mainly because I found using my Urban Decay primer potion really amps up all the shades. Word of advice is therefore to use a primer, or be prepared to be a bit disappointed. I am torn though, it’s no Urban Decay palette by any means, but then it is nearly a quarter of the price.
A credit to the palette is the fact it comes with handy tutorials on the back, for duos, trios or quads. There’s so much choice when it comes to this, that even though I wish the pay off was better, I can’t hate it or slate it. It probably won’t be a palette I reach for everyday, but the shades are pretty and if pigmentation is the issue, I can get over that by just packing on a bit more onto the lid. If you’ve already got tonnes of eyeshadows then give this a miss, but if not then there’s worse things out there.
Let me know what you think of the palette in the comments below. Also if you have any recommendations for drugstore palettes do give them a shoutout. Eyeshadows are probably my favourite thing ever!
